About me
Mr. Braggs was born and raised in Wilmington, NC where he served three years on the City
Council. A submarine combat veteran, he served over 26 years. Following his military career,
he joined the public sector as Operations Director for Angel Network Charities. He returned to
the federal government as a civilian and served in the Treasury Department and Department of
Defense before retiring in 2023 as a Senior Management Analyst. He currently serves as a Civil
Rights Compliance Specialist with the Hawaii Department of Education.
A devout social justice advocate, he is the NAACP National Assistant Secretary and the local
president. In August of 2017, Mr. Braggs received a Presidential appointment to the U.S.
Commission on Civil Rights State Advisory Committee and currently serves as its Vice
Chairman. He is a longtime member of the Japanese American Citizens League Honolulu
Chapter Board of Directors and the Downtown Honolulu International Rotary Club Youth
Director.
Mr. Braggs holds membership in several professional and fraternal organizations including
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., National PanHellenic Council, Prince Hall Freemasonry, and
Prince Hall Shrinedom at the local, state, and national level. He serves on the Hawaii Black
Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Pacific Ocean Chapter of Blacks in
Government. A resident of Hawaii since 1992, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business
Management, a Master of Business Administration, and a Certification in Diversity and Inclusion
from Cornell University. Fully engaged in developing future leaders, he mentors youth and
aspiring entrepreneurs. He is a much sought-after mentor, life skills coach, lecturer, motivational
speaker, poet, and author. Mr. Braggs is a proud father, grandfather, and loves the great
outdoors.
